Exceptional Ziegler Sultanabad carpet

Object Description

This attractive rug belongs to a group of carpets specifically commissioned in west Persia during the Late 19th/Early 20th century to complement European furnishing tastes. They are unique due to their grand scale drawings, quiet formality and use of soft understated colours and are often seen in grand stately homes in Europe and the UK. Antique Ziegler carpets work well in modern spaces as they have the aesthetic ability to unite and balance both classic and contemporary design elements.

Object History

This early Ziegler Sultanabad has a rare ivory field which complements the creative drawing and colour composition. The generous, wide main terracotta border frames the rug nicely and all the colours are vegetable dyed which have aged nicely. 

Object Condition

In very good practical condition with minimal age-related repairs.
