Object Description

An extremely rare and unusual early 19th century (circa 1830) yew wood wheelback Windsor armchair with excellent patina (colour), this armchair having some unusual characteristics of an oval ‘wheel’ back and oval ‘wheel’ arm supports, probably from the Thames Valley region.

The armchair consists of a hoop back with scribed edge and central pierced splat with oval wheel design and turned spindles to either side leading down to shaped arms with both shaped arm supports and oval wheel arm supports, replicating the design on the back, with a well figured solid elm seat.

The armchair is supported by turned legs to the front and back all supported by a crinoline stretcher.

This chair is in very good condition for age with evidence of some old repairs (which is to be expected), is of stable construction and can go straight into a home or collection.
