Object Description

A very fine well sized ebonised and thuya wood writing table / library table decorated with blue Wedgwood jasper ware plaques, stamped to the drawer ‘Edwards and Roberts, London.’

English. Circa 1850.

Of excellent proportions, the large rectangular top having a newly fitted faded green gilt tooled inset leather writing surface, enclosed by a thuya wood banded and strung boarder over two mahogany lined frieze drawers, divided by a central rectangular panel with an oval blue Wedgwood jasper ware plaque surrounded by a gilt ormolu wreath. Below which are four turned and gilt fluted end supports, each having four blue Wedgwood jasper ware plaques surrounded by a gilt brass mould.
The twin columned end supports being united by a turned ebonised and gilt fluted stretcher, decorated with an central ornate brass urn with Wedgwood plaques to opposing sides. Mirror finished to the back enables this writing table / library table to stand freely within the room if desired.
Raised on swept inlaid and carved feet with ormolu end caps terminating on brass and porcelain castors.

An extremely rare model, having 20 inset blue Wedgwood jasper ware plaques, of very desirable generous proportions along with being stamped to the drawer by the renowned cabinet makers ‘Edwards and Roberts London’.

Offered in excellent condition having been gently restored this fine table retains most of its original gilt-work to the brass mounts.

Of the best quality along with being a very practical table due to its size, enables this table to be used as either a writing table, library table or sofa table.
