Object Description
This engraved Charles II silver squeeze sided box was made C1670 by ?R crowned and measures 1 9/16 inches in length by 1 5/16 inches wide and is 0.25 inches deep, it has cut corners and is beautifully engraved underneath with scrolling acanthus leaves, the sides are also engraved with a type of chevron design as is the top border where there can be found a seated, winged cherub holding a flaming heart with three hearts at his feet and in the background there are buildings and it has the motto IE IE PREFERE in a banner above. The squeeze side works well and it is marked inside with the makers mark but it was poorly struck so the first initials is illegible – the engraving all over is still very crisp and the box is in very good condition.
