Object Description
This fine heavy early George III silver covered sugar bowl was made in London in 1762 by Abraham Portal who was an apprentice of Paul DeLamerie, it measures 6 inches tall by 4 1/8 inches in dia across the top and just over 3 inches across the foot, it has a gadrooned border around the foot leading into a pear shaped body that is embossed with flowers, foliage and scrolls and they is a vacant cartouche to the front, the pull off lid also has flowers and foliage with scrolls and a lovely sunflower finial atop. It is fully and very clearly hallmarked under the base and also inside the lid with the makers mark and lion passant, it is in excellent condition and weighs 11.45 ounces or 355 grams.
