Object Description
This fine Victorian silver snuff box was made in Birmingham in 1837 by Nathaniel Mills and measures 3 inches in length by 2 1/8 inches wide and is 11/16 inches deep, it is beautifully engine turned engraved all over with a shield shaped cartouche to the lid which reads DAVID REID MD BY A FRIEND 12TH JUNE 1839. It has a floral thumb piece and is gilded to the interior where it is fully and clearly hallmarked and the condition is excellent, a fine box from a very collectable maker weighing 3.60 ounces or 112 grams.
