Object Literature

William Henry Mander was a landscape artist born in Birmingham in 1847. He exhibited regularly at the RBSA between 1881 and 1914 with no less than 122 works, mainly of landscapes, rural and river scenes. Although he spent most of his life in the Birmingham area, he lived for a time in Dolgellau, North Wales. Later he returned to the Birmingham area where he died in 1914. Mander was a prolific artist whose style has often been compared to that of BW Leader. His paintings are admired by many, in particular his views of the Midlands and North Wales, and always find a ready market amongst collectors. Mander’s landscapes have great atmosphere about them and with his use of a rich palette, never fail to impress.

The painting is housed in new, English made gilt frame which is in excellent condition.
