French Chinoiserie style gilt bronze and faience jardinière
French, late 19th Century
Height 28cm, width 37cm, depth 27cm
This stunning jardinière is wrought in the distinctive French Chinoiserie manner, the ‘Persian blue’ faience bowl—attributed to Théodore Deck—moulded with wonderful Chinese designs such as ruyi heads and dragons beneath the tin glaze. The bowl is mounted with exquisite gilt bronze, also cast in the Chinoiserie manner. The piece is raised by four gilt bronze legs, each mounted with a dragon style mask, while the bowl is mounted with twin handles and finished along the rim with a mount decorated with ruyi head forms.
