Object Description
French Neoclassical gilt-bronze and rouge griotte marble pedestal
French, 19th Century
Height 123cm, width 41cm, depth 41cm
In an highly pleasing combination of ormolu (gilt-bronze) and rouge griotte marble, this very fine Neoclassical style pedestal is crafted in the form of a Classical Corinthian column, and was made in France in the nineteenth century.
The rich tonality of the marble complements the bright, reflective, and immaculate finish of the gilding to give the piece a warm rich red glow,, which also serves to accentuate the fight artistic qualities of the column capital’s sculptural details. The slight tapering of the column gives the piece a pleasing curvature, helping to make it a fine work of art in its own right, as well as an exceptional display piece for the appropriate sculpture or decorative object.
