This magnificent ormolu clock was crafted in France in the late 19th Century. With its scrolling classical forms and its abundance of foliage and floral motifs, this mantel clock exemplifies the French Rococo style. The object is elaborate and highly detailed – note, for instance, how the craftsman has taken care to individually render the petals of the flowers.
While the design is certainly dynamic, it is also thoughtfully composed, with an underlying order to the ornament making the whole piece appear well balanced.
The clock face consists of a circular enamel dial, with both hour (Roman numerals) and minutes (numbers) included on the face. The hands of the clock have then been intricately fashioned in gilt bronze.
This beautiful ormolu clock will make a welcome addition to any mantelpiece.
