Object Description

Very interesting antique dining table dating from the late George III period. This table has influences of the Regency about it so is something of a transitional piece. It has a slight Regency knee, reeded edge and reeding to the tops of the legs while retaining the cross banding and stringing associated with the 18th century. More interesting perhaps is the colour and condition as it is made from beautiful huge sheets of mahogany with lovely grain pattern. The crossbanding is of contrasting satinwood and the stringing in ebony and boxwood is an unusually fine detail. This table has lots of leg room for guests and is especially sturdy as the tops do not tilt in the usual fashion. This table can be extended to seven and a half or perhaps even eight feet long with the addition of an extra leaf to seat ten people. Please ask for details.
