Object Description

George III period mahogany and brass bound wine cooler, attributable to Gillows of Lancaster. The oval cooler composed of mahogany staves, joined with brass banding, and with brass handles either end with a lion mask motif. The stand with square legs carved with beading and ‘c’ scroll brackets, terminating in leather wheel casters. The lion’s head handle relates directly to a wine cooler commissioned of Gillows in 1774.
