Object Description

A good quality pair of antique silver candle holders with shell corners and detachable sconces. Very attractive design with little cast clam shells. Heavy cast silver.

Object Literature

Few domestic silver candlesticks still exist before the reign of Charles II and 17th century examples are usually made from sheet silver and are light in weight. Cast candlesticks started to appear circa 1685 and are much heavier in weight. The first loaded candlesticks appeared circa 1765 and are made of sheet silver, and not cast.

Object Condition

These lovely candlesticks are in very good condition. Both sticks are stamped underneath with a full set of matching English silver hallmarks, the sconces are part marked.

Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
