Object Description

A beautifully modelled antique sterling silver stirrup cup in the form of a fox head. Fine features and lovely expressive face. Weight 147 grams, 4.7 troy ounces. Length 11.5 cms. Width 10 cms. English silver hallmarks on the rim for London 1773. Maker John Lautier.

Object Literature

The stirrup cup held a drink which was consumed while mounted on horseback, usually prior to a hunt moving off. As it is of small capacity it can be emptied quickly and there is no need to set it down during use.

Object Condition

This rare little hunting cup is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. Crisp silver hallmarks. The definition is still very good.
