Object Description

A good antique sterling silver tankard with domed hinged lid and plain baluster design. Good weight and large size. Strapwork to the top of the handle and an attractive cut out thumb piece. Uninscribed. Contains 1050 ml. Weight 877 grams, 28.1 troy ounces. Height 20.5 cms. Diameter 10.5 cms (top). London 1770. Maker Jacob Marsh.

Object Literature

Biography – Jacob Marsh, apprenticed to William Lukin 1726, turned over to Gabriel Sleath 1731, free 1741. Mark entered as largeworker 1744.

Object Condition

This fine tankard is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. Uninscribed. Good weight, size and colour. Fully marked with clear silver stamps inside the lid and underneath the body. The handle is unmarked.
