Object Description

An elegant antique sterling silver salver. Classic plain style with swept feet and bead border. To the front there is a hand engraved armorial with a crest and armorial. Weight 1174 grams, 37.7 troy ounces. Diameter 33.5 cm. Height 3.5 cm. London 1785. Maker Thomas Chawner.

Biography – Thomas Chawner, London silversmith, apprenticed to Ebenezer Coker 1754, free 1762. Livery 1771. Recorded as a plateworker working from 1759 both alone and with William Chawner, also as a spoonmaker. 1st mark entered 1773, 2nd mark 1775, 3rd mark 1783. Died circa 1802-1811.

Object Condition

This pretty tray is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. Stamped on the reverse with a full set of clear English silver hallmarks.
