Object Description

A classical style antique sterling silver basket with twist design swing handle. Small size, possibly a Georgian epergne basket. With a cut work border and applied harebell swags with tassles.
Weight 127 grams, 4 troy ounces.
Height 5 cm/12 cm. Length 14.1 cm. Width 10.5 cm.
London 1776.

London silversmith. Free by redemption 1764. First mark entered as smallworker in partnership with 1768. 2nd mark 1765. 3rd mark in partnership with John Barker 1768. 4th mark alone as plateworker 1774. 5th mark 1776, 6th mark (2 sizes) 1777, 7th (2 sizes) 1777. 8th 1779. 9th 1779. Died 1780. His widow Frances continued, possibly in order to dispose of the stock and the business.

Object Condition

The basket is in very good condition. Stamped with a full set of English silver hallmarks underneath, handle unmarked.
