(Sideboards were made for the same purpose in the 18th century
as they are to this day. To stand at the side of a dining room, or
kitchen, and be used for a dual purpose of both storage and to serve
from. This example is bowfronted which adds to the elegance, along
with the delightful inlaid decoration and cross banding. The most
unusual brass handles are later replacements but incredibly elegant
and fit the piece very well indeed)
