Mahogany Longcase clock by ‘William Kennedy’, Antrim (Northern Ireland)
This is a superb example of a typical Irish longcase clock, the casework showing the finest Flame Mahogany beautifully figured and extremely elegant.
The hood door opening to a re-painted round dial with Roman numerals and original hands signed William Kennedy, Antrim.
The movement is set between two substantial brass plates and beautifully executed with tapered finned pillars and wheelwork of fine quality. The movement of eight day duration striking the hours on a large cast bell with anchor escapement. The weights and copper ‘bob’ pendulum are both original to the clock. C.1790
William Kennedy is listed in ‘Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World’ by B. Loomes as working in Antrim (Northern Ireland) from 1784 to 1810.
