Gilt bronze mounted Louis XV style porcelain jardinière
French, late 19th Century
Height 31.5cm, width 26cm, depth 20cm
This charming cylindrical jardinière features a beautiful Louis XV style porcelain body and striking Neoclassical gilt bronze mounts. The porcelain body, with a light blue ground and occasional ‘jewels’ of coloured enamel, is adorned with a painted scene that encompasses its circumference that depicts putti in a pastoral landscape. The gilt bronze mounts throughout are of exceptional quality: the twin handles are particularly impressive, while the gilt bronze base is richly detailed.
The piece is by Henri Picard, a leading metalworker active during the latter 19th Century, and is stamped to the gilt bronze underneath ‘H. Picard.’
