Object Description
A leather on brass, novelty Square Mouthed or Gladstone Bag Travel Inkwell.
The inkwell follows the form of many of the novelty inkwells which were made either side of 1900. A wide variety of different inkwells were made but typically they all open on a sprung push button which releases a catch for the top half of the inkwell to open. The interior then has a second, round lid which is also held by a sprung catch. The interior of this lid has a sprung pad to form a good seal to the glass ink bottle.
The condition of this inkwell is particularly good. Circa 1900.
