This flower sprig model is formed from the finest of materials: gold imitates bark, rock-crystal stands for both glass and water, nephrite is a substitute for fresh green leaves, and coral mimics flowers in bud. The sprig appears to sit in a vase, the bark of its stem surrounded by water. The stem rises and branches, two branches laden with nephrite leaves and two others with flowers about to open from buds. The effect is mesmerising, and the skill of the artisan undeniable.
While Karl Fabergé is perhaps best known for his Imperial Eggs, he produced many other types of items, flower models prime among them. This model follows the precedent set by Fabergé and does so with exquisite materials and masterful craftsmanship.
