Object Description

This George II silver lidded tankard was made in London in 1737 by Thomas Whipham and measures 7/5 inches tall by 7.5 inches from the handle across and is 5 1/8 inches in dia across the base. The tankard has a stepped and domed lid that is fully and clearly hallmarked inside, a scrolled handle that bears the makers mark and a large cast and scrolled thumb piece with hinge detailing into a graduated double drop and a shield shaped terminal at the base and the main body flaring slightly into a skirted bottom with a girdle one third of the way up with double cypher initials of TG to the front and LINEHAM TREASURE TROVE engraved below the girdle. It is fully hallmarked to the side and is in nice condition weighing 26.8 ounces or 834 grams.
