Object Description

This good quality armorial Commonwealth silver puritan spoon was made in London in 1652 by Stephen Venebles and measures 7 3/8 inches in length, it has a coat of arms to the back of the bowl that is original and is fully and clearly hallmarked to the back of the stem and inside the bowl with the leopards head. The spoon has been buried and by the condition of it probably not long after it was made – the condition is very good, the hallmarked are clear, the coat of arms is still sharp and there is no wear to the bowl, a lovely spoon weighing 1.65 ounces or 52 grams.
