Object Description
This very nice armorial George I silver box was made C1720 and is unmarked apart from an incised IW to the inside of the sides, it measures 3.25 inches in length by 2.5 inches wide and is 0.5 inches deep, it has a pale lemon gilded interior and a stand away hinge with the domed lid having a very nice crest and coat of arms and the bannered motto TOUIOVR LE MESME meaning always the same – not changed – remains unchanged. There are the crests of a sheath of wheat above the knights helmet and battle colours and it is enclosed in a florid cartouche. It is also crested to the underside with a bearded man and it is in very good condition.
