Object Description

This large crested George III silver salver was made in London in 1786 by Henry Chawner and measures 14.25 inches in dia, it has a beaded border and beading around the four feet and has a large central engraved shield shaped cartouche with the crest of a lion rampant inside with the motto STET FORTUNA DOMUS (Let the fortune of the house stand) and above this is another crest of a griffin atop a crown. It is fully and clearly hallmarked on the back and is in very good condition weighing 42.45 ounces or 1320 grams.
