Object Description

A watercolour on card of a mounted Grenadier Guards officer.

The officer is probably a Lieutenant Colonel and he has a bugler ready by his side. In the background are a number of lines of Guards with the leading line firing. The scene is likely to be manoeuvres at Aldershot, where Norie had a studio. The officer is wearing three medals, Egypt (1883), an undetermined medal and the Khedive’s Star which help us to date the painting. Given the medals, it’s possible that this is a specific portrait by Norie rather than a scene showing the regiment in the field.

It is well painted, as you would expect of Norie and shows good details. It is signed O. Norie below the feet of the bugler. Circa 1890.

Framed Size Is Given.
