Andrieux was a Belgian artist and illustrator. He studied under Bouguereau in Paris, winning the Prix de Rome in 1872. Working as an illustrator he contributed to Le Monde Illustre during the Franco Prussian war of 1870, and thereafter making a particular specialty of battle scenes. Following his death in 1880 the contents of his studio were auctioned. This drawing bears the studio stamp from this sale.
