Object Description

This beautifully woven wool rug was constructed in Central Asia, Kohtan and features a traditional circular medallion design. The Central pattern features a green background with accents of orange, brown, yellow and pink that make up the medallion design. This has been framed by a layered border that features a repeat pattern design. Both the colour and design in this piece make it the perfect accent rug for any home. Object History

This piece was woven by hand in the 1940s, in the ancient city of Khotan, which is in the Southern District of Xinjiang or East Turkestan. Constructed with hand-spun wool and cotton, densely hand-knotted which creates the fine wool pile in this piece. The rich colours come from natural dyeing techniques, which have been used for generations. This fine wool rug is sure to last for generations if cleaned and cared for correctly.
