Object Description
Henry VIII joined oak and carved chest, the front with twin panel front with both panels carved with renaissance floral ornament set within a simple moulded framework and central wrought iron lock and hasp. The plain panelled sides with simple mouldings. The reverse side is of huge interest as one panel is an unfinished portrait panel and reused in the back of this chest, it is quite possible the chest was intended to have portrait medallions and the client chose to have the floral panel instead. The panel shows all the marking out ready to carve but either way the unfinished panel is completely original to the chest and carved by the same hand as the two floral panels on the front.
