Object Description
A stunning pair Art Deco cold painted bronze bookends mounted with Oriental Children figures by renowned sculptor Hester Mabel White (British, 1870-1948) and dating from around 1920. This iconic pair of bookends portrays two children in Oriental dress who clearly should be studying, both with books. One portrays a young girl seated and studiously reading her book while a young boy stands leaning on the upstand of the bookend and peers over watching the young girl, his books in a pile on the ground next to him. The figures are well cast and finely hand painted in deep green with gold to the features and both are mounted on wood with wooden end uprights. Neither is marked.
