Object Description

A Holy Land burnished squatted amphora, sitting slightly tilted on a flat, concave base, featuring a wide funnel mouth and two laterally positioned handles that join the mouth to the waist. This is a very common thick walled amphora shape used to store oils. During this period pottery finishing techniques improved: potters used a remarkable amount of red slip, applied by hand and smoothed with an irregular burnish.

Date: Circa 3rd-1st Millennium BC
