Object Description

Ink and wash drawing by Modern British illustrator and Royal Academician Steven Spurrier (1878-1961). Inscribed ‘HOC’ but although it is technically the House of Commons it is the Lord’s Chamber as the Commons met there from 1941 after their Chamber was destroyed by incendiary bombs. Spurrier drew this from life in the closing months of the war, probably as a commission for one of the pictorials of the day, possibly the Illustrated London News.
