Object Description

An important and imposing large wood sculpture of a Bishop Saint, seated, his robes falling in soft drapes around him and retaining traces of the original polychrome decoration, his cloak fastened by a carved magnificent jewelled clasp, his beatic expression soft and serious. Swabian, 14th century circa 1350.

Object Condition

Mitre missing. There is a slot in the head where it would have been attached.
The back of the sculpture has been cut and also the base, probably when it was removed from a larger group.
