Object Description
Nineteenth Century Indian silver condiment set in original presentation box. The silver label to the top is inscribed: “Presented to Capt. and Mrs O’Donald by the Christian Brothers St Josephs College Naini Tal 1st July 1916” Inside the lid of the box is the label for C Rufener Jewellers & Watchmakers Lucknow and Naini Tal. In the 1920’s Ram Advani”s family moved to Lucknow in search of a better world where his parents opened a bookshop. In his remembrances in the 1970’s he speaks of the Europeans that had also started up shops there and he remembers well Mr Rufener who had the high class jewellery shop. During the WW2 Mr Rufener was detained as a foreign national, he was sent to Dehradun and his shop was closed.
