Italian Art Nouveau style sculpted marble bust by Pugi
Italian, c. 1905
Height 57cm, width 41cm, depth 33cm
This fine marble bust of a young woman is designed in the distinctive Art Nouveau style. The young woman, who smiles widely, wears a light dress that dissolves into naturalistic waves in the plinth. The marble is superbly carved, as evidenced by the rose in her hair and the bow on her shoulder. It is signed ‘Fili Pugi / Firenze’ for the Pugi brothers, sons of the celebrated sculptor Guglielmo Pugi.
