This superb oil painting depicts the Riva degli Schiavoni in Venice. The foreground is the scene of a young fruit seller selling fruit to three children, while the remainder of the foreground hosts a variety of other staffage figures. The canal and buildings of Venice occupy the background, the whole world inside the painting bathed in a soft, Venetian light.
