Squat Bulbous Form Decorated with Samurai, Geisha & Daimyo
The Satsuma vase of squat bulbous form with a tightly pinched neck and flared rim extensively decorated with a border of one hundred treasures around two large scenes. The first scene features multiple figures surrounding a Daimyo including samurai warriors, scholars and geishas. The lower third is finished with gilded lappets and geometric banding, with the base unsigned with the original sales label from the factory stuck within the bottom rim, the vase is an extremely good example of Satsuma ware. The Satsuma vase dates to the Meiji Period (1868-1912) circa 1885.
