Object Description

Kangxi Armorial export plate with excellent painting and gilding made at Jingdezhen as a special commission c1720
The arms are of MANN impaling GUISE. the arms are similar to those of Mann Earl of Cornwallis also granted in 1692 to Mann of Linton in Kent. Robert Mann married Eleanor daughter of Christopher Guise of Abbots Court in Gloucestershire, nephew of Sir John Guise 1st baronet of Highnam. Christopher Guise died in 1752. the line subsequently died out in 1786 and the title has expired. ( Courtesy of D Howard Chinese Armorial Porcelain)

Object Condition

The Enamels are in excellent condition, one very small area of Rubbing there is a chip to the foot rim which does look as though it is a progressed firing flaw. There is a 2mm glaze line but only to the glaze to the front it is NOT a hair line
