Object Description

Chinese early 18th Century moulded blue and white made for export to Europe during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi at the kilns at Jingdezhen
The sides are painted with a geometric pattern to the edge based on the design found on fences and window shutters. Inside this pattern are small Ruyi heads along the scalloped edge.
The indented section is painted with alternating panels of flower heads or flower sprays.
The centre is painted with a figural scene of two ladies on a terrace with trees and a fence. The scene is possibly influenced by the Romance of the Western Chamber.
The underside painted with a pattern of Ruyi Heads and panels of flowers. Six character Cheng H’ua mark inside a double circle. The mark is apocryphal to honour and not to deceive
