Object Description

Chinese blue and white porcelain pair of Rosewater sprinklers made for the Chinese Islamic or Buddhist market at the kilns at Jingdezhen. Made during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi 1662 – 1722 .
Painted to the main body with leaf shaped cartouches of blue with white lotus and foliage. This design was achieved using the wax reveal technique, where the flower and foliage was designed in wax on the body, the blue was painted over and in the the kiln the wax burned away leaving the white flower. The leaf shaped cartouche and flower design is very much in the Islamic style. The main design is below a geometric design with ruyi heads below it
The neck is painted with peacock feathers. issuing from the geometric band. The very tip of the neck has a double circle.
Lotus flowers are associated with purity and beauty and peacocks and the feathers with beauty and dignity
