Object Description

A blue and white glazed ceramic saucer and teacup set. The saucer is scallop-edged, and finely decorated with a landscape and bucolic scene in a rich blue pigment. A band of decoration with geometric and leaf patterns lines the slightly flared rim. The teacup is similarly decorated with a landscape scene to the outside, bordered to the rim with a thin, solid blue line. The inside of the cup features a decorative band to the rim. The cup rests on a small, straight-edged foot.

Date: Late 17th century AD

Period: Kangxi Period, Qing Dynasty

Object History

Provenance: From the ‘Blue Chrysanthemum Wreck’; lost in the South China sea, late 17th Century AD, recovered 2014.

Object Condition

Condition: Fine condition. Some light abrasions, dulling of glazed surfaces due to seawater exposure.
