Object Description

Chinese early 18th century famille verte Brush pot made at Jingdezhen during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi, painted in overglaze enamels and orange paint
The painting shows Kui Xing – The god of Examinations – running after some books while holding a brush and ingot. The books are floating in a celestial constellation and another smaller group further round
Kui Xing is running over a rocky terrain
The base is slightly convex with a recessed medallion to the centre. There is a painted red inscription in traditional chinese

Object Condition

Two glaze lines to the outside and a hair line crack to the side as shown in the photograph
