Object Description
Kangxi – Chinese early 18th century c1710 – porcelain famille verte pair of bottle vases made at Jingdezhen for export to Europe.
The decoration around the main part is of shaped panels in filled with flowering tree peonies with grasses. The panels are outlined in red and divided at the top with a filled small panel showing half a yellow daisy. A typical cell border separates the base from the neck which is painted with stiff leaves / lappets in alternating green and orange. The neck pattern is repeated to the foot rim and one is slightly whiter glaze but very subtle.
Although undoubtedly they a pair there are subtle differences between the vases, as seen on the border around the foot rim where one has the aubergine colour in the leaves. this is quite common as many were made and they were decorated separately and put together as a pair on entry into the European port by the merchant and his representatives.
