Object Description
Kangxi Blue and White Mark and Period Klapmuts bowl made at the beginning of the 18th Century at the kilns at Jingdezhen. it was made as an export piece to Europe and is an excellent bowl with vivid colour and excellent subject matter for the painting.
The painting shows scholars in various groups involved in different activities. These include playing chess or mah-jong with an audience, involved in discussions, or relaxing. All activities are in a garden setting with trees fringing the picture and terrace and fences in the back ground.
The inside painted with a lotus shaped panel wit a geometric border an da large flowering plant in a jardinière to the centre.
The rim to the top and underneath are painted with geometric designs with cartouches of important trees and flowers.
The base is painted with a six character Kangxi Mark inside a double circle.
