Chinese – Kangxi – early 18th century blue and white plate with a six character linear mark for the Emperor Kangxi to the back – Mark and period. Made at Jingdezhen and painted in underglaze blue , excellent colour and detail.
The painting to the centre shows a scene from The Romance of the Western chamber with further scenes from the Chinese story depicted in the cartouches to the Cavetto. These scenes are separated by different intricate geometrical designs.
Painting is superb and humorous.
The back is painted a six character linear mark for Kangxi inside a double circle. The underside of the cavetto is painted with four auspicious emblems
