Object Description
Kangxi – Chinese early 18th century – blue and white large plate. Made at Jingdezhen with a six character Kangxi mark to the back. The axis of the mark would vertically cut the picture on the front if extended around
The painting is in bright blue and shows a central scene of two ladies – Beauties or Long Elizas – at leisure on a garden terrace, one playing a flute the other holding a whisk.
The moulded border is painted with various auspicious flowers including, peony, chrysanthemum, lily and lotus
The under side is also painted with the same flowers
Excellent potting, painting and colour on a larger than usual plate.
