Object Description

An extremely fine Kangxi period blue and white glazed ceramic meiping vase, featuring a bell-shaped lid and knob handle, panels of floral ornament and chrysanthemum borders. Meiping, literally translating to ‘plum vase’, stands for the vase shape since these shapes were characteristically used to display plum branches with blossoms. The vessel is a beautiful example of Kangxi blue and white production.

Object History

Provenance: From the Blue Chrysanthemum Wreck lost in the South China sea, late 17th century AD, recovered in 2014.

Object Condition

Very fine condition, some dulling of glazed surfaces due to seawater exposure. Small chips to the rim, not visible when lid is placed on.
