Object Description

Antique Sewing/Writing/Jewellery table cabinet veneered in Kingwood with a pagoda top and brass inlay. The front, sides and top all crossbanded with brass and ebony strung frames. Standing on four turned wooden ribbed design ball feet. The front features two false doors with dummy locks. The actual lock and escutcheon are on the right side of the box.

Once unlocked from the side the door at the front can be opened to reveal a leather stationery compartment. The Kingwood cabinet features four eye-catching drawers disguised as books. The bottom drawer has a pentray, ink wells and two storage spaces. The third drawer is vacant and lined in its unusual original patterned paper. The second drawer is fitted for sewing supplies and has two mounted thread reels and has space for eight more which flank a pincushion. The top draw is lined with patterned paper and filled with various threads, laces and sewing materials.

This wonderful cabinet has a secret compartment hidden on the top, to access this you need to remove the top drawer and placing your fore finger underneath the void to the top front, you will feel a catch, pressing this towards you will allow the lid to be lifted revealing its original cream velvet lining and mirror plate.

This antique table cabinet comes with a fully working lock and a tasselled key.
