This exceptional micromosaic panel depicts a charming Renaissance style genre scene, expertly rendered using thousands of individual tesserae. It is a wonderful example of the quality of the Italian mosaicists’ craft in the late 19th Century. The mosaic has been completed by using coloured glass tesserae set onto a Belgian black marble backing.
The scene depicted in the panel is full of lively wit, humour and acute observation. It shows the interior of a grand dining room. At one end of the dining table, a lady is being shown attention by two men who are leaning towards her. At the other end, a friar looks on at the scene disapprovingly.
